The historical concert of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra at the Theatre of Pyongyang, North Korea.

For the first time ever, the Popular Democratic Republic of Korea will welcome an American orchestra for an exceptional concert on Tuesday 26 February at the Theatre of Pyongyang.

The prestigious New York Philharmonic conducted by its Musical Director Lorin Maazel will perform a highly symbolic programme:
- Wagner, Lohengrin, Prelude to Act III
- Dvorák, Symphony N°9 « From the New World » (premiered by the New York Philharmonic in 1893)
- Gershwin, An American in Paris

This programme will be preceded by the national anthems of North Korea and of the United States in the presence of the highest dignitaries from both countries. A traditional North Korean piece and the Candide Overture by Leonard Bernstein will conclude this concert.

The New York Philharmonic is currently touring in Asia giving 11 concerts in Taiwan, Hong Kong and China. The concert at Pyongyang will also be accompanied by master classes and a public rehearsal open to music students. On February 28, a concert in South Korea in Seoul will close this historical tour.

Medici Arts, via its company EuroArts Music, is proud to be able to associate this event by relaying this concert live thus making it accessible to millions of viewers and Internet visitors.

This concert is a EuroArts Music production with the New York Philharmonic, in co-production with MBC (Munhwa Broadcasting Company - South Korea), Arte, Thirteen/WNET (New York) in association with EBU (European Broadcasting Union).

In addition to the live broadcast on North Korean (KCT), South Korean (MBC) and Chinese television (SMG) and the deferred broadcast in France and Germany (ARTE, 26/02 at 7 p.m. French time), in the United States Thirteen/WNET, 26/02 8 p.m. ET - PBS, 28/02 9 p.m. ET), the concert will be broadcasted live on the Internet via the sites and at 10 a.m., French time.*

The DVD of this event will also be released in a few weeks. is pursuing its objective of broadcasting classical music on the Internet following the huge success of the Verbier Festival On Line in the summer of 2007 (more than 150,000 visitors and 1 million videos seen).

On April 30, will officially open its doors by offering worldwide an audio-visual platform dedicated to classical music: concerts and festivals live, web TV, more than 200 programmes available in VOD and an on-line magazine. This concert at Pyongyang is therefore a splendid preview for
Medici Arts, an independent audio-visual group based in Los Angeles, Berlin, Leipzig, London and Paris, is now representing the EuroArts Music, Idéale Audience, Classic Archive and BBC Legends labels.
